My Interrailing Route

Europe... Interrailing 2011

This was without doubt a life changing experience for me.  At the age 19 my friend and I decided to don the backpacks and head off on a trip around Europe! It was a big undertaking... but we had it all planned; the inter-rail pass; Lonely Planet's Europe on a Shoestring guide; a Hostelworld account complete with several bookings, flights, a mapped out route, money, new vans trainers and a daring sense of adventure!

We flew from Edinburgh and made 11 countries in 21 days before flying back to Glasgow!

It was my first experience of backpacking travel and since then I've had itchy feet for more travel like this!  It opened my eyes to a new way of travelling.  I was instantly hooked on the complete sense of adventure and freedom it brought.  It was a journey filled with cultural experiences and opportunities that static touristy holidays just couldn't provide.  The hostelling and inter-railing aspect of our trip was a huge success and it felt like we belonged to a whole new community - a community which welcomed us with open arms and strangers who instantly became friends.
